Friday Funnies

Since I don't have a Twitter or Facebook account, which I think would be a perfect outlet for such things, I'll be posting Gage's 'funnies' of the week on Fridays.  Gage is constantly cracking us up and saying the craziest things.  He's only 2, so I can't imagine what he will come up with in the future.  Last night, Luke and I lay in bed and cracked up about all the things he's been saying lately and go figure, I can't remember a damn one of them right now.  To be continued....

Me: Gage, do you want to sit on the potty?
Gage:  Yeah, I want to sit on the potty like Baby Jesus!

Yes, folks, that's right, apparently Baby Jesus sat on the potty.

Gage's Vocab....

Long ago, when Gage first started to talk I began a vocabulary list on the side bar to keep track of what Gage said and how many words he had.  Obviously now that he's 2, the point is moot and I'd like to use that space for something else.  But I still wanted to save the information somewhere, so I thought I'd post about it.......albeit months later.

In no particular order learned... begun at 10 months...


kitty, Daddy, poo-poo, bye-bye, meow, eat, tree, cheese, hi, uh- oh, 'blu'- balloon, 'bir'- bird, 'gook'- book, 'buh-buh'- bubble, 'tuh-dow'- touchdown, 'booooo'- moo and 'boo' for when he's trying to scare you, 'bye-pur'- diaper, 'it-c' (as in the Bitsy spider), 'bal'- ball, baby, 'beh-b'- belly, up, all done, bee, apple, socks, 'Bobby'- Mommy (still no M's), 'El-bo'- Elmo, hat, 'daw'-dog

30 words at 15 mos.

Favorite word at 17 mos.- NO

Favorite phrases at 18 mos.- "I did it.", "I see (insert object)", "See ya", "Oh NO"

"I love you!"- 5 days short of 18 mos.

A Week of Firsts...

This first week of March has been a long one, but a productive one.  Gage has hit a few 'milestones' this week and it's just amazing to me, as I always say, how much he is learning every day.  On Tuesday, Gage had his first REAL haircut, not just Mommy and Daddy chopping off long strands in the bathtub.  He did awesome and looks so handsome!  He doesn't have much hair, but it sure looks better now that it's even and not in his face.

We also had a much needed playdate this week, not a 1st, but definitely still fun!  I'm sure you remember Sawyer from last summer.  Sawyer 10 mos., Gage 16 mos.





As of this week, Gage is officially walking.  He walks all the way across the room and is walking to get  to places now, not just b/w couches, tables, to toys, etc.  Gage is transitioning into the toddler room the week after next in daycare and has to be able to walk in order to do this....we were worried he would be delayed.  We are feeling less nervous now and his new teachers have even been in the baby classroom to spend time with him this week.

Although vocabulary is nothing new for Gage, he has made quite a few strides this week.  I stopped posting how many words he has b/c it was getting out of hand and I couldn't keep up, but some of his new ones this week are 'really?', 'stop', 'clock' and my personal favorite, after getting his hair cut and having someone hold the door open for us....'thank you'.  As.plain.as.day.  I have to say I was pretty shocked.  Another vocab first and probably more exciting than thank you, Gage said 'Bobby' today when I came home!  Nothing like a day w/ your Daddy to miss your 'Bobby';)  (As you all know, Gage hasn't said Mommy yet to me and also can't say a 'b' sound.  But hearing Bobby today was pretty exciting since it was a first!)

Gage seems to also be understanding alot more as of late.  He obviously has good expressive language skills and uses his words in context, however, I was a little worried about his receptive language.  He wasn't able to point at things in books when I asked him or didn't seem to understand when I said 'bring me this or that'.  He always pointed and named things, but wouldn't do it if I said 'point to the star....'.  This week he has started to do it, it takes him a few seconds to process what I ask, but he is damn accurate when he does respond.  Yesterday I asked him to point to Mommy and after a few seconds, he turned around, pointed right at me and said 'Bobby!'

Finally, probably not a 'milestone', but we still think it's pretty darn cute, Gage can now tell you what a duck, cow, pig, cat, sheep, elephant and snake say.  The snake and elephant are my personal favorites.  I'm hoping to get it on video soon.  Have a wonderful weekend. 

Growing like a weed....

Well, not exactly....I just couldn't think of a better title, but Gage is not actually 'physically' growing (still under 20lbs), but his skills sure are growing.  It's crazy the new things that he learns every day.

Just 2 weeks before his 1st birthday, Gage has learned to clap and whenever someone says 'Yay!' he claps.  For some reason, he claps after every feeding, which is pretty funny.  Maybe he's giving me props for still nursing, who knows? 

Gage now officially has 3 words.  Some of you my be doubtful, but I consider them words if they are spontaneous and aren't prompted.  We have been saying 'kitty' his whole life and someone said to me the other day that there was no way he'd learn a 2 syllable word and I should stick with 'cat'.  For the last few months, whenever we say kitty he looks for them, so we knew he understood.  However, after months and months, our little guy points to the cat and says 'ki-tee'.all. the. time. Of course he says Da-da too, but he's been saying that for months w/o really knowing what he was saying.  But now he  points to him and says Da-da, so I'll count that one too.  Finally, his newest word is 'bah-bah', for bubble.  He points when he says it right where we keep the bubbles.  No ma-ma yet, but I'm satisfied w/ what we have.  I can't wait to hear what he learns next.

Gage also is beginning to let go of the table, high chair, stairs or whatever he is standing next to.  This hasn't ended up too well for him yet. He fell and hit his head the other day, but luckily it hasn't deterred him and I think before his birthday he'll be letting go and at least standing for a few seconds.  AND he is walking behind his walker now and thinks he's pretty cool when he does so....I'm sure there will be much  more learning every day and his one year bday post will be unprecented in its length, but for now, I'll be done. 

Planning on taking Gage to the Halloween Hoopla at the shopping center up the street tomorrow to show off his digs.  Pictures to come.  Happy Halloween!
