A Day at the Park....

Finally, the nice weather is coming....I'll take 58 and sunny at the end Februrary. Here's how we spent our day (aside from napping and grocery shopping.)

This is a pretty sweet park that we found.  Albeit it's about a 45 min. drive from here, it was definitely worth the trip.  Gage will have even more fun once he's really running around.  Hope you all enjoyed your weekend.

Blowing Bubbles...

This video was taken about a month ago and I forgot to post it.  It was pretty long, so I cut it just to show you the good part.  Don't judge me for the mess my child has made with his bookcase.

15 month well check up (a week late)

I mentioned in my post over the weekend that we had our 15 month well check up last week.  'Well' is a relative word, it seems.  I didn't think it went 'well' at all.  I'm pretty sure that Gage didn't think it went 'well' either.  Anyway, the doctor wasn't too concerned that Gage didn't walk yet.  She said at this point, he just had to be standing....so check that off.  Although, I do feel like he should be walking, since EVERYONE else his age is and his moving up to the toddler room in 2 weeks depends on it.  Oh well, no stress for now...alot can change in 2 weeks.

Of course going into the appointment I was pretty proud of my 'I-have-30-words' 15 month old.  I mean, he isn't walking, so I gotta be proud of something, right?  I was going to be proud that he knew 5-6 body parts and that he repeats just about everything we say.....but then, the dr. didn't even ask, didn't even care that he could say anything, other than Mommy and Daddy.  Which, as you all know, he doesn't say Mommy.  29 other things, but not Mommy....well he says 'Bobby' when he sees a picture of me, but does not call me by name or call for me....ever.  Boy, did that take the wind out of my sails!

On to the stats....Every time we go, Gage get this little sticker that says "I've Grown..." and I've saved them all in the front of his baby book.  He got one this time; however, it's a little funny, b/c he hadn't actually grown...at all, in fact, he lost weight.  At 15 months, Gage weighs 20 lbs., 5 oz., and is 29 3/4 ins. tall.  Officially teeny!  I was super concerned b/c he hadn't gained anything, but b/c he's so short too, the dr. explained that he's proportional and that unless I want a fat kid, it's ok that he hasn't gained weight.  She said he was probably following in his Daddy's footsteps and would most likely be short and small for good.

The part that didn't go so 'well' was the shots!  As I think most people would agree the MMR shot is the DEVIL!  My poor child was sick for 3 days w/ a fever and just feeling like general crap.  It sucked.  I had NO idea it was going to be that bad.  He hadn't reacted to any of his other shots like that.  And silly me, got it confused with the DTaP vaccine and thought it was a series he had already had one of.  I won't be blindsided again.  I can't believe I hadn't heard from anyone else how bad it was. And to think that some kids get it at a year!  Not that he was any heavier now, but a year is sooo young to get hit that hard w/ the shots.  Plus he had to get 2 more AND they gave them to him in his twiggy little arms instead of his fat legs.  He SCREAMED like it hurt and I just felt awful. Anyway, I will forever dread and hate the MMR- at least I have a good 3 years before he has to get it again.  I think that's everything.  Have a wonderful weekend. Happy Friday.

Happy Birthday Jamie!

I'm not quite sure when I started reading her blog, but I have been a follower ever since!  Jamie, over at The Kubeczka Family has 2 of the cutest kids around and posts lots of wonderful pictures all the time!  She also does a little blog designing on the side so her blog is always very hip as well.  Jamie is turning the big 3-0 today and her profile says she's dreading it....I have a feeling she'll be fine...just look at her beautiful family.  I'm sure they'll pamper her and shower her with a little extra love today.  Please head on over to wish her a Happy day.

Happy Birthday CJ!

Again, a birthday shout out to one of my REAL life friends. Casey's oldest son, CJ, at All Because Two People Fell in Love turns 4 today. Head on over to her blog to check out all of the festivities and to hear the tales of the things her kids say.  They are always my favorite posts of hers.  While you're at it, check out her blog roll to find her photography blog, she takes some AWESOME pictures.

Happy Birthday CJ!  Have a great one!

Tuesday, already??

Yes, folks it is already Tuesday.  We had a wonderful weekend at the beach.  A little windy, but who are we to complain having temps of 60 in February?!?!  Yesterday, we spent most of the day in the car....sucks, but I guess that's the price you pay for driving down to the beach, almost 6 hours away.  I feel bad b/c I'm sure Gage gets pretty darn bored in the car.  I mean, he's still facing backwards and a kid can only nap but so much.  He has a few toys, but even they get boring after a while.  We put on a few kids' songs CD's yesterday that he seemed to enjoy.  He actually did pretty well, considering.

Then last night, after our 60's-at-the-beach weekend, it snowed!  Not too much, but enough ice and 'wintry mix' to once again cancel school for the day.  The kids are loving it around here!  A 4 day weekend and a 3 day week!  I actually had quite a bit of 'school work' to do myself, so I took Gage to school to see his friends and sat down and knocked it all out within a few hours.  I'm seriously considering getting my toes done too, since the nice weather is upon us and Mom and I could find NOWHERE on a Sunday in Feb. at the beach to do our nails!  The rest of our week should be pretty easy.  We have a normal day tomorrow, but Thurs. I have training so Gage and I will get to sleep in a little, Sawyer is coming over for a playdate Thurs. afternoon and then it's Friday again!!  Gotta love this time of year.  We didn't take too many, but I'll try to get pictures up soon from our weekend at the beach.  Enjoy!

Catching Up....

Let me see if I can write a short post to catch you all up before this computer crashes.  I'm using a weak Internet connection in the OBX, but I'll give it a go since I have been neglecting my blog.  At least we're here!  woo hoo!  The long awaited trip to the OBX, 3 months in the making.

Anyway, this week brought warm weather which was pretty awesome and one of the reasons why I didn't get the chance to blog.  Who wants to blog when they can be outside playing?  I also spent a few nights bringing work home and didn't even get to watch both episodes of American Idol!!  In any case, I think the big news of the week was Gage's 15 month appt.  I can't even begin to describe that in this post, so you'll have to stay tuned... Kerri, I gotta touch base with you before Cam goes though.

So yes, the long awaited beach trip has arrived and the weather is beautiful.  As most of you know, we canceled at least 2-3 beach trips since December b/c Gage was sick.  We FINALLY made it this weekend and for February, I have to say we can't complain about our 65 degree day on the sand. Gage had a good time feeling the sand and just enjoying the ocean.  He was obsessed w/ the water and I have a feeling we'll have our hands full this summer.  Unfortunately, I wasn't sure how long we'd be there so I left my camera at the house.  Monday's supposed to be just as warm so hopefully I'll get a few pictures then.

I swear, just yesterday I was thinking of how much I had to write....*sigh*  Enjoy your weekend!

Soooo busy...

I didn't even post my weekly Wordless Wednesday post, I just haven't had the time.  Perhaps I will update you all soon.  *sigh*  I thought I had been doing better lately keeping up.  Oh well....until then....

Technical difficutly....

If any of you watched my video of Gage walking earlier this morning, or saw the last video I posted....they were very poor quality.  Which kinda ticks me off b/c I got a nice Flip HD camera for Xmas and the videos look AWFUL on my blog.  Well, I fixed that.....I figured out how to import them from YouTube to make them of much better quality.  However, it's kind of a pain....does anyone else out there who posts videos have a Flip HD and is there an easier way?  Also, if you saw the video of him walking earlier- watch it again, it looks much better!

Thanks for your help!

Gage is walking!!

Ok, so maybe not really walking everywhere he goes, but he CAN walk. He just doesn't choose to. Ah well, I'm sure it's coming soon.

Anyway, Gage started this last weekend and someone brought it to my attention that I hadn't even blogged about it!! Are you kidding me? The moment we have been waiting for for like 4 months and I didn't even document it. I was too busy writing it down in our other baby book instead. Anyway, yes, I'm super excited to say that a week before he turned 15 months old, he can take steps. Watch out kitties, here he comes!

You Know You're a Mom When....

  • you are super excited about your new exercise regimen.....courtesy of Billy Blanks on Exercise TV (that you fit in twice a week, after 7pm, if you are lucky)

  • your purse must be large enough to fit a sippy cup, diapers, wipes, a baby toy and some snacks (ICE)

  • the songs that run through your head on a daily basis while at work are 'Itsy Bitsy Spider' and  'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star', instead of Taylor Swift's 'Back to December'.

  • sleeping in 'til 830am IS sleeping in

  • you can't sleep without the melodic static of the baby monitor buzzing in your ear

  • you have never cared more that your bathtub and floors are sparkling clean

  • you never thought it was possible to love someone so much and to be truly amazed every day
When I saw Kat's post at Living Like the Kings, I thought it was a really cute idea and couldn't wait to make my own list.  However, as always, time got away from me and I'm struggling to get this up this morning.  No pictures makes for a blah post, but nonetheless I wanted to link up w/ her, b/c I think we can all definitely relate to this.  Let me know if you make your own post about 'You Know You're a Mom when...."

Oh, I forgot one....You Know You're a Mom when....you have NO time to blog!

Oh, high school students...

Digressing away from my normal posts about Gage I wanted to share a conversation I had today with a student of mine.  She shall remain nameless (Q) because I am certain that noone else on Earth would ever spell her child's name like this and you know for confidentiality reasons.  Anyway, it went something like this....

Me:  Q, can I see you for a minute?
Q:  (rolling her eyes, she came walking towards me)
Me:  Do you have anything else to put on?
Q:  What?  No, why?
Me:  Don't you think your outfit is a little inappropriate?
Q:  None of the other teachers said anything, no, why?
Me:  Q, you have NO pants on!

After I proceeded to tell her she would need to go down to see administration, she began chatting w/ her friends.  "There's all these white girls around wearing short skirts and you can see their booty and noone says anything to them".

Me:  Q, you have NO pants on....those girls are wearing something.

I tell you, my days are never boring.

*Q was wearing a T-shirt and leopard print pantyhose as her outfit today.  The windchill was in the 20's!

A fever, AGAIN= no beach, AGAIN

Alas, we were supposed to take off work on Monday and have a nice weekend in the OBX to celebrate my Mom's birthday....we should've known that wouldn't happen.  grrr....After last week's run-in w/ the stomach flu, Gage woke up Thurs. am w/ a 102 degree fever.  As he does when he has a fever, he acted no differently all day, played normally, ate normally and overall didn't seem like it bothered him too much; however, the fever hung on.  So....being that I'm a responsible;) mother, I couldn't send him to day care today w/ a fever (although some parents do) and b/c Luke took off yesterday, I had to be home today.  All fine and well, except that I was going to take the day off on Monday instead so we could watch the Super Bowl in the OBX and drive home in no traffic on Monday.  WRONG!  B/c I took the day off today, Luke and I decided that we couldn't take Monday too, so once again, beach trip canceled!  Luke says Gage doesn't like the beach.  This is the 2nd time we've canceled a beach trip in the last 2 months b/c he's been sick.  In any case, I will keep on trying....I have got to get some OBX time in soon.  Our next plan is for President's Day weekend, wish us luck!

Happy Friday!  Have a stellar weekend.
